Soursop is the fruit of Annona muricata, broadleaf, flowering, evergreen tree native to Central and South America, also produced in some parts of Asia, including Sri Lanka.

Soursop fruit has the most delectable flavour. The skin is thin and is covered with conical nibs. The white, pulpy flesh, which contains juice, is peppered with small shiny, black inedible seeds, and has a pleasant, sweet-acidic taste.

Culinary uses: eaten fresh as fruit, made into cakes, juice, beverages and for flavouring. The young soursop, where the seeds are still soft, is used as a vegetable.

Soursop is not only a delicious and healthy fruit but it is used by Ayurveda to treat illnesses ranging from stomach ailments to cancer.

 

 

 

Curing cancer

Soursop fruit can help attack cancer cells effectively and safely without the after effect. Soursop leaf has an effective target and kills malignant cells for many types of cancer.  Ayuveda effectively uses for cancer treatment both – leaves and fruits of soursop in addition to other medicine and therapies.

Soursop fruit juice can help overcome kidney disease, liver problems, urinary tract infection (also known as urethritis) and hematuria (blood in the urine).

Speeds up the healing of wounds

The flesh of the soursop is applied as a poultice to accelerate the healing process and also to prevent bacterial infection. The leaves also are used for healing wounds.

Soursop contains minerals like phosphorus and calcium which are very important in the process of bone growth and prevention of osteoporosis.
